We ventured a little further south today to a special local institutionโ€”The new Lobster Pot, a seafood restaurant in a traditional Irish pub setting.

Paul Behan, a seasoned hotelier, took the helm of this iconic eatery just last summer. Relocating from Kildare to Wexford, he brought with him a wealth of experience and a passion for warm, hands-on hospitality. With decades in the industry, Paul ensures every guest is treated like familyโ€”from a warm welcome at the door to the last bite of dessert.

TAKING IT UP A LEVEL THIS SUMMERย

Paul and his team are taking things to the next level in 2025. After a winter of thoughtful renovations, The Lobster Pot is unveiling an exciting new chapter for diners and visitors alike.

Launching this May is The Lobster Lodge, a four-bedroom retreat designed for relaxed group getaways. With two dining rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a cosy sitting room, outdoor jacuzzi, and a dining terrace that overlooks the breathtaking Ladyโ€™s Island Lake, itโ€™s the perfect coastal escape.

Next door, The Oyster Room has opened as a bold private dining space for special occasions and group bookings. Seating up to 25 guests, itโ€™s anchored by a striking Victorian poppy painting and decorated in a quirky, confident style. Set menus are available for events, and when not privately booked, the space seamlessly integrates into the main restaurant.

Also new this season: The Early Bird Menu launched every Wednesday throughout April and May. Aimed at locals and early diners, itโ€™s already drawing a loyal crowd. As Paul puts it:

โ€œItโ€™s been a long winterโ€ฆ weโ€™re ready to get back to what we do best.โ€

Ultra-fresh local seafood leads the way on the crowd-pleasing menu. Head Chef Anna brings creativity and passion to the kitchen, crafting dishes full of flavour and finesse. Whether itโ€™s classic fish and chips or a more adventurous special, each plate reflects care and local quality.

The charming, traditional-style pub-restaurant occupies a characterful ground-floor space, incorporating the restaurant, Front Bar, and Parlour. With cosy snugs, a labyrinth of nooks and crannies, and a warm atmosphere, itโ€™s no wonder people liken it to a โ€œLobster Potโ€ โ€“ once you go in, you donโ€™t want to leave. Heading into the cooler months, the space feels especially invitingโ€”and with outdoor seating across the lane overlooking the lake, thereโ€™s truly something for every season.

Reviewers agree:

โ€œProbably the best fish and chips I have ever had.โ€
โ€œThe owner is the perfect host โ€“ his hands-on approach, personality, and charm made our evening just perfect.โ€
Even restaurant critic Lucinda Oโ€™Sullivan praised it as:
โ€œA whirlwind of fun, food and laughter.”
