A new addition to Wexford Town is offering something a little different, blending great coffee, locally sourced food, sustainable shopping, and community connection under one roof.

Located within Eclectic Avenue on Wexford’s Main Street, Kinfolk is the latest venture from Alfie and Kristyna, who have created a space that reflects changing social habits and a growing appetite for more diverse places to meet, relax, and spend time.

At first glance, the concept may seem ambitious. A café serving fresh food made with local produce, shelves showcasing Irish makers, a pre-loved clothing section, and an evening venue that doesn’t centre around alcohol is not something commonly found in one location. Yet that combination is exactly what makes Kinfolk stand out.

The idea behind the business is rooted in a simple observation: people still want to connect. They still want places to meet friends, catch up after work, or simply spend time outside the home. However, the ways people socialise are evolving, and not every gathering needs to happen in a pub.

Kinfolk aims to provide that alternative.

Open seven days a week, with extended opening hours from Wednesday to Friday, the café offers a welcoming environment where people can enjoy a coffee, share a meal, browse local products, or simply settle in and stay a while. Friday evenings will also feature live entertainment, including DJs and local musicians, bringing an added energy to the space and creating another social option in the heart of town.

At its core, Kinfolk is a café with a menu focused on fresh, locally sourced ingredients and a strong plant-based offering. The food philosophy reflects the wider values of the business, placing an emphasis on sustainability, community, and supporting local producers.

The interior tells a story of its own. While the design has an industrial feel, it remains warm and inviting. Reclaimed materials have been used throughout the fit-out, including old farm shed roofing, school tables, donated pallets, and repurposed furnishings. The result is a space that feels authentic, creative, and full of character.

Beyond the café counter, visitors will find a carefully curated selection of products from local businesses and independent makers. Wexford artists, Wicklow soap producers, sustainable goods, and a dedicated pre-loved clothing section all contribute to a retail experience that aligns with the café’s community-focused ethos.

The name Kinfolk itself speaks volumes. Meaning family and community, it reflects the vision behind the project. This is not simply a place to grab a coffee and leave. It has been designed as a space where people can spend time, whether they are meeting friends, working remotely, browsing local products, enjoying a meal, or simply taking a moment for themselves.

That approach feels particularly relevant in Wexford today.

As evening approaches, options in many towns can often become limited. For many people, socialising after work tends to revolve around going for a drink, grabbing takeaway food, or heading home. Kinfolk is positioning itself in the space between those choices, offering a relaxed and welcoming alternative that encourages people to gather without pressure or expectation.

It is a concept that reflects broader changes in how communities interact and spend their leisure time, while also supporting local producers, artists, and sustainable initiatives.

If first impressions are anything to go by, Kinfolk is bringing something genuinely new to Wexford Town. More than just a café, it is creating a space built around community, connection, and conscious living.

And perhaps most importantly, it’s the kind of place that many people feel Wexford could do with a lot more of.
