WAGFEST received the turnout it truly deserved this weekend in Castlebridge, as families, dog lovers and animal welfare supporters from across County Wexford came together for a memorable day in support of the Wexford Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (WSPCA).
From the moment the gates opened, the atmosphere was buzzing. Visitors were greeted by a packed venue filled with dogs of every shape and size, a wide range of stalls, and entertainment that kept the crowds engaged throughout the afternoon. The event highlighted not only the popularity of WAGFEST but also the strong community spirit that exists across Wexford when it comes to supporting animal welfare.
The impressive attendance was a clear reflection of the appreciation people have for the work carried out by the WSPCA. Every year, the organisation provides vital care, treatment and support to animals in need, and the success of WAGFEST demonstrated just how many people are willing to stand behind that mission.
A huge amount of credit is due to the team responsible for organising the event. Sinead, Sarah, Lorraine and the wider organising committee invested weeks of planning and preparation to bring WAGFEST to life. Coordinating an event of this scale is no small task, and the exceptional turnout ensured their efforts were rewarded with a day that will be remembered by both visitors and supporters alike.
The fundraiser was officially opened by Councillor George Lawlor, who took the opportunity to recognise the contribution of Barbara Bent. Having recently celebrated her 80th birthday, Barbara continues to play an invaluable role behind the scenes, dedicating her time and energy to supporting animals and animal welfare initiatives across County Wexford.
The event comes at an exciting time for the WSPCA as the organisation prepares to open its new state-of-the-art facility in Bordale. The modern centre will significantly enhance the charity’s ability to care for animals, providing improved welfare standards, treatment facilities and support services for years to come.
If WAGFEST is anything to go by, the future looks bright. The remarkable turnout in Castlebridge showed that there is no shortage of support for the WSPCA and its work, with the people of Wexford continuing to demonstrate their commitment to helping animals in need.
As the crowds dispersed and another successful WAGFEST came to a close, one thing was clear: community events like this not only raise essential funds but also bring people together around a cause that matters. For the WSPCA, the organisers, and the many animals who benefit from their work, it was a day to celebrate.
